Book Review & Giveaway: You Can Trust Your Life 4-Disc DVD Set

52f8a3a2f590476f91584c2c46ea7e5cI use the tools I learned from this system every day! Each DVD is filled with powerful conversations, AHA Moments and affirmations. The audience Q & A’s were one of my favorite parts of each session. There are some affirmations that come through the exchanges with the audience that you have to see to believe. Everyone who stood up shared my story in some way, and it was very healing to be a part of the experience.

Creating Affirmations for Daily Activities

One of the many gifts from the “You Can Trust Your Life DVD” were to how to use and write affirmations that empower. How you live your day is up to you. Louise smiled and said, “It’s up to us to make it a lovely time!” Have affirmations for everything from running errands, that meeting with your boss, picking the kids up from school, taking a shower, or even getting out of bed! Louise & Cheryl also emphasized the importance of creating affirmations for those activites you dread. Bring intention and attention to your day.

Examples:

I am showered with exceptional thoughts all day (repeat in the shower)

I work in creative collaboration with fun, inspiring people on projects that heal the world (repeat while working)

I send waves of love to the people around me. I feel the love they send back. (repeat anytime)

Hidden Extras

There are also some wonderful surprises in these DVDs. Louise personally teaches you how to use the mirror to honor yourself and your power. Cheryl teaches the tapping method with such simplicity – you’ll master it by the time the DVD is over. I tapped away anxiety around a public speaking engagement. It worked! Needless to say, I’m a tapping enthusiast!

I recommend this book for anyone who is ready to experience a real change, a permanent shift in thought, word, and deed. You CAN Trust your Life, and Cheryl & Louise actually make it fun!

Erica’s Soft Lemon Spritz

This image shows a whole and a cut lemon.

3 1/2 oz purified or distilled Water

1 pinch of panthenol dl

1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin

1/4 tsp  nettle

1/4 tsp calendula extract

6 to 8 drops lemon essential oil

4 oz spritz bottle

This spritz feels like it has oil in it but it’s completely oil free.  Add water and panthenol dl and gently shake the bottle.  Next, add glycerin and nettle, and calendula extract.  Shake, shake, shake your curls (and the bottle:)

I love the lemon scent of this spritz but you can decrease/increase drops depending on your nose.  I love adding rose essential oil for this mix as well.  Roses add extra conditioning power and is a natural mood lifter.  Play around with your favorite essential oils to make this spritz even more delicious!

Calendula Extract

The calendula extract gives your hair a soft and silky feeling.  I LOVE it and add it to almost everything!  It controls frizz, is a natural antiseptic, antifungal, antibacterial skin soother (try saying that 5 times fast:).  I order mine from the Herbarie but it’s easy to find online.  Just Google “where to buy calendula extract”

**To make this spritz even more moisturizing, fill the bottle to the top (or top off with) aloe vera juice or flaxseed water.

Wheatgrass & Grapefruit Conditioning Clay Wash

wheatgrass shots from Jamba Juice

This is my FAVORITE clay mix because it has wheatgrass (softens, detoxifies, grows, loves hair) which is excellent for mind, body, and hair!  It’s also made with grapefruit juice instead of my apple cider vinegar (which I LOVE).  I downloaded a calendar last month from Natural Hair Affair and Goddess Anita Grant had several alternatives to use for ACV lovers.  I’ve noticed more shine and a juicier smell which is nice.

Let me know how this mix works for you.  Also, enjoy a shot of wheatgrass today.  The benefits of wheatgrass are endless but the Top 5 are:

  • Increases red blood-cell count and lowers blood pressure
  • Fights tumors and neutralizes toxins
  • Externally applied to the skin can help eliminate itching almost immediately
  • Is a beauty treatment that slows down the aging process when the juice is consumed
  • Greatly increases energy levels

Wheatgrass & Grapefruit Conditioning Clay Wash

Prep Time 10 minutes
This hair softening, moisturizing, cleansing, detangling bentonite clay wash is easy to make and great hair food!

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Bentonite clay
  • 3 tablespoons Grapefruit juice
  • 1 tablespoon Linden leaf powder (softens and conditions the hair)
  • 1 tablespoon Horsetail power (promotes hair growth, strengthens hair)
  • 1 tablespoon Wheatgrass powder (helps mend damaged hair, can also turn gray hair back to it's natural color)
  • 1 teaspoon Marshmallow root powder (conditions hair, adds slip to the mix)
  • 1 tablespoon Safflower oil (or your favorite oil - olive, sunflower, etc.)
  • 2 tablespoons Honey (natural humectant)
  • 1 cup Flax water (or purified water, aloe vera juice, green tea)
  • 1 teaspoon Vitamin E
  • 6 to 8 drops Grapefruit essential oil
  • 6 to 8 Rose essential oil (naturally softens and conditions hair )

Note

This will last for about a month in a refrigerator (I use it all before then so it may last longer:)

Directions

Step 1
I use a mixer for this recipe but you can easily make it in a bowl.

Add clay, linden leaf powder, horsetail powder, marshmallow root powder, and wheatgrass to mixing bowl. Gently stir dry ingredients with fork until blended. This will keep your mix from clumping up on you while mixing.

Step 2
Add honey, grapefruit juice, safflower oil.
Step 3
Mix in purified water. Blend for 2 to 4 minutes. I like my cleanser to be more like a shampoo consistency - not a paste. You can always increase or decrease the liquid amount based on what you like.
Step 4

Add essential oils and Voila!

Pumpkin Spice & “Everything Nice” Deep Conditioning Clay Masque

I became a Clay Evangelist exactly one year ago this month. It all started with a video by Naptural85 about the one product she’d found that eliminated her need for detangling — Yes, ELIMINATED! Doing 3 natural heads a week, the less time I can spend detangling, the better.  She has an EXCELLENT post (videos, photos and other goodness) all about Terresentials. Watch my video review of this awesome earth clay here.

I didn’t know they were headquartered in Maryland-wish I would have known that when I lived there!

Honestly, she had me with her natural hair shine. A lot of the “natural research” I was doing – suggested that hair of a “certain” texture would never shine. We could only hope for sheen. My own hair was shiny in all states, relaxed, natural, transitioning, but not during damage…which is where I was a year ago. How does all of this relate to the recipe below?

If you love the clays or have been interested in trying them, THIS is the recipe!  It is absolutely amazing with or without the pumpkin.  You all know how I feel about my bentonite clay, but when I need some extra moisture and chocolate goodness, I love using Rhassoul clay as a deep conditioner at least once a month.

Benefits of Rhassoul Clay include:

  • reduces dryness and flakiness
  • removes toxins and impurities from hair, skin, and body
  • balances hair and scalp sebum
  • tightens pores
  • improves skin texture
  • thickens and softens hair
  • reduces frizziness

Try the recipe below and tell me what you think.  Share your thoughts in the comments!  Mix Lavishly:)

Pumpkin Spice & Everything Nice Deep Conditioning Hair Masque

3 Tablespoons rhassoul clay
2 tablespoons pumpkin puree
1/4 cup organic cocoa butter
1 teaspoon coconut oil
2 tablespoon raw or organic honey
A dash of cinnamon (or 1/8 tsp)
Optional: 1 teaspoon cacao powder
1 cup purified water or your hair’s beverage of choice (BOC) which includes:

coconut milk
flaxseed liquid (my favorite and what i use in this mix, click here for the recipe)
green tea
aloe vera juice
rose water - be creative!

Add pumpkin and rhassoul clay to mixing bowl.  Melt cocoa butter in the microwave for about 20 seconds or until all pieces are dissolved.  Add to clay and pumpkin and mix.  Add coconut oil and honey.  For an added bit of chocolate conditioning, add 1 teaspoon of organic cacao powder.

Heat the liquid until warm (not scalding – leads to unhappy scalp:( and add it to the mix.  Try to keep from eating it as it smells WONDERFUL!

I like my mix to be less of a paste and more of a thick conditioning liquid. The clay will thicken as you mix it, literally sucking in the oil.  This is ok but you may find you need more or less liquid.  You cannot mess up this recipe…only your floor for a minute.  Thank goodness this isn’t henna so no fear of anything turning red!

I find a more liquid mix is easier to wash out (Lavish is thick & voluptuous:)  See what works best for you but put some extra towels down if you like it like mine!

Place a plastic bag on your hair and let “marinate” on your hair for 30 to 45 minutes.  Rinse and style as usual.

I add A LOT of oil to my mix, almost 1/2 cup sometimes. Lavish loves it but you can decrease or increase the amount depending on your lavish hair needs!

Storage Tip:  Once you’ve mixed all the ingredients you can store this clay in your refrigerator or freezer for months.  Simply put it in the refrigerator if you’ll be using it in the next few weeks, or freeze it for use a few months from now!  When ready to use, take it out of the freezer, let it “warm up” in the refrigerator for a day or so, and that’s it.

Book Review: Meals That Heal Inflammation

Meals That Heal Inflammation (MTHI) is both a mega guidebook and cookbook in one written by Julie Daniluk, Nutritionist Extraordinaire!  Julie’s experience as a nutritionist comes through in how clearly she describes how each food (and an excess or deficiency of it, affects our health). She includes simple steps to start adding anti-inflammatory foods to your diet now and which foods to toss out.  One of the things I can’t stop eating is actually a honey mustard dressing she has with raw honey–DELICIOUS!

Three Highlights from the Book…

1. Don’t underestimate your emotional health.

You can’t heal inflammation in your body without healing your mind as well. Three mind balancing activities: meditate, get moving, and don’t take yourself so seriously:)

2. Stop turning off your pain response (in other words – put the aspirin down and listen to your body!)

The author explains that you need to know when you have an ache or a pain since this is your body’s way of letting you know something is wrong. Pushing through the pain because it’s dulled by aspirin or over-the-counter pain meds could be decreasing your opportunity to identify inflammation and permanently heal a nagging condition.

3. Meals are easy and good (they’re even for picky little eaters – ages 3, 5, 7)

I love the freshness of each meal and that I’m getting a powerful vitamin, mineral, anti-inflammatory burst of goodness with each bite! My kids on the other hand loved the smells and taste of each crispy kale chip and sesame green bean! This is different from the shrieks and shrills I usually hear when anything green appears on their plate.

I found MTHI to be very enlightening and answered a lot of questions about my own gut, childhood and adult food poisonings, gut linings and how to live without stomach discomfort. My family and I eat a gluten free wheat free diet (sometimes casein free as well) so I’m always looking for new meals and new meal ideas we’ll all enjoy that are also good for us.

It is important to note that you don’t have to have a stomach issue (or be wildly obsessed with anti-inflammatory foods) to enjoy this book. The meals themselves are worth cooking up for mind, body and inner health!

Honey Mustard Dressing with Warm Spinach & Chicken Salad

1/2 cup chia, flax, hemp seed or walnut oil*
1 tbsp raw honey**
1/4 cup natural mustard
pinch gray sea salt or pink rock salt

Makes 3/4 cup

Add grilled chicken (or meat/vegan choice you love) and warm the spinach for about 10 seconds in the microwave).

*Olive and hemp seed oils boost the immune system.
**Use raw honey and natural mustard to avoid white vinegar and sugar (a biggie in most store bought dressings)
