I started buying fresh local produce by the box (makes juicing way easier:-) and ended up with a BIG green issue.
I bought 2 gorgeous boxes – one filled with organic fruit and the other vegetables from The Paia Farmers Market here in Maui. They included so many familiar items and a few exotic fruit I had never heard of (rambutan anyone?)
Right in the middle of the box was this HUGE avocado and I didn’t know what to do with it.
In my best Dr. Seuss voice, I don’t eat avocados.
Use avocado oil on my skin – yes.
Put creamy avocados in my hair – of course.
Sneak an avocado in a smoothie from time to time – maybe.
But actually eating one – uh – no.
I knew it would be good.

- 4 to 6 soap nuts
- 1 cup of water
- Add soap nuts to a small 2-quart pot.
- Add water to the pot and bring soap nuts to a boil.
- Reduce to low-medium heat. Let them simmer for 20 minutes.
- Strain out the soap nuts. You can use these again by storing them in a plastic bag once they dry. Keep them in your refrigerator for up to 1 month.
- Pour the liquid in a food processor or blender.
- Blend or mix on high for 30 seconds. The soap nut wash should begin to foam up as you mix.
- Place foam in a bottle with a pump or in a sealable jar.
